Getting started

The consultation is a relaxed conversation — typically 20 to 30 minutes — where we get to know your child and your goals. We ask about year level, subjects, what has been going well, and where things are harder. There is no assessment and no pressure. We also walk you through pricing, scheduling, and answer any questions before you make any decision.

Not at all. The consultation is completely free and comes with no obligation. We'll share our recommendation and you can take as much time as you need to decide. If you'd like to go ahead, we confirm your tutor and arrange the first session. If you want to think it over, we follow up in a few days.

Usually within a week of your consultation. Once you've decided to go ahead, we confirm your tutor match and coordinate a first session time that suits your family. Around exam periods demand can be higher, but we'll always give you an honest timeline.

We work with students from Year 3 through to Year 12, including HSC preparation. Our tutors are matched based on the specific year level and curriculum, so a Year 7 student and a Year 12 student will be assigned different people even for the same subject.

Sessions & scheduling

All sessions are conducted online via Zoom or Google Meet. Your child will need a laptop or tablet with a camera and microphone. We use a shared digital whiteboard within the call to work through problems together in real time.

For students in Years 3–11, sessions are one hour per subject per week. For HSC students, we recommend 90 minutes per subject per week — the additional depth required at that level makes the extra time well worth it. Consistency matters far more than intensity: a regular weekly session will outperform sporadic long sessions every time.

We work with you and your assigned tutor to find a time that fits your family's routine. Weekday afternoons, evenings, and weekends are all available. Once we know what suits you, we'll match you with someone whose schedule aligns.

We ask for 24 hours notice where possible — it allows us to manage the tutor's time fairly. Life happens, and we're always reasonable about genuine emergencies. Rescheduling is easy: just let us know as early as you can and we'll sort it.

Our tutors

All of our tutors achieved an ATAR of 99.85 or above and excelled in the specific subjects they now teach. They've sat the same exams your child is preparing for — they know exactly where the marks are won and lost, what the common mistakes look like, and how to explain things in a way that actually lands. We don't use generalists.

We consider subject expertise, year-level experience, teaching style, and personality. Some students respond best to an encouraging and patient approach; others thrive with someone more structured and challenging. We use the consultation to understand which is right for your child. If you need tutoring in more than one subject, we'll typically assign different tutors — a specialist in each area rather than a generalist for both.

We'd rather know early and fix it than let it drift. If after a few sessions the fit doesn't feel right — for any reason — let us know and we'll arrange a different tutor at no extra cost. The outcome for your child is what matters.

Yes. Once we've identified a proposed match, we can arrange a brief introductory call between you, your child, and the tutor before the first paid session. This is especially helpful for younger or more anxious students who benefit from a familiar face on screen.

Pricing & payment

Pricing depends on the subject, year level, and tutor, and is discussed clearly before you make any commitment. There are no registration fees or hidden charges. The rate you're quoted is the rate you pay.

No. We don't ask you to sign up for a term in advance or commit to a minimum number of sessions. You can pause or stop at any time with a week's notice. We'd rather earn your continued business than lock you into a contract.

We invoice weekly or fortnightly, depending on your preference. Payment is via bank transfer. Invoices are sent after the relevant sessions have taken place, so you're paying for lessons that have already happened rather than in advance.

Progress & results

It depends on the student and the starting point. Some students show noticeable improvement in confidence within a few weeks. Academic results in formal assessments often take a full term to reflect. We always recommend at least a full term before evaluating progress — tutoring is not a quick fix, and regular consistent sessions over time produce the best outcomes.

Yes. We check in with parents at the end of each school term, and more frequently if you prefer. Your tutor can also provide brief session notes on request. If anything significant comes up between check-ins, we reach out proactively.

This is one of the most common things parents tell us. A student who is resistant rarely gets as much from sessions as one who is engaged. The most effective approach is usually to frame tutoring as being on the student's side, not as a punishment or criticism. We suggest involving your child in the conversation about goals where possible — and if it helps, the consultation can include the student directly.
